Pledge for Plastics

Town Farm Primary School and Stanwell Fields C of E Primary have received a new football kit and picnic bench thanks to local residents recycling more plastic.

In November Spelthorne Borough Council teamed up with Surrey County Council, Recoup* and WRAP** to deliver a project to inform residents about the variety of plastic packaging that can be collected from their light green bin.

The Council delivered leaflets and held road shows in Stanwell and Sunbury Common to help residents recycle more and specifically to identify which plastics can be recycled.

Both the new football kit that Town Farm were given for their school team and Stanwell Fields rainbow coloured picnic table are made from recycled plastic, which shows how versatile plastic is and how easy it is to recycle it into something new.

Cllr Tony Mitchell, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Plastic packaging is hard to avoid so it is important we recycle as much of it as we can. If you look around your home, you will see examples of it everywhere, from fruit punnets to margarine tubs and shampoo bottles to bleach bottles. We want to encourage our residents to recycle all of their pots, tubs, trays and bottles.”
